Curing autoimmune diseases with AI, starting with type 1 diabetes
We’re building a future free from autoimmune disease. By uniting AI research agents with experimental biology, we’re creating a continuous cycle of discovery to understand disease more deeply and accelerate the path to cures. Type 1 diabetes is our first mission.

Research
We study how to restore insulin production and stop the immune attack on beta cells. Our work spans growing functional beta cells from stem cells, identifying the molecules that T cells recognize, and understanding how pancreatic tissue sustains autoimmunity. We use computational models and experimental data to investigate cell replacement, immune tolerance, and treatments that act selectively on beta cells.
- Computational reassessment of chromogranin A leader variants for engineered insulin
- Guide-specific variance and shared controls obscure gene-level reliability in human beta-cell CRISPR screens
- Spectral-gap bounds for higher-alphabet and weighted Hamming graphs
- Spectral compression, obstructions, and low-defect stability in q-ary Hamming graphs
About
GloGlo was founded by Marie Schneegans and Michael Fester in San Francisco and is backed by Y Combinator.
Michael was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes while working on his Ph.D. in number theory at the University of Cambridge. He later co-founded an AI voice and machine learning company that was acquired by Sonos.
GloGlo is deeply personal to us. We build products to help people living with diabetes today, while working toward a much bigger goal: a future without Type 1 diabetes.
We intend to work on this until we solve it.
Products
Our mission is to cure diabetes and help everyone living with it stay healthy until we get there. Our consumer products support people with diabetes today, with proceeds helping fund our research.
GloGlo Gummies are delicious dextrose gummies designed to raise low blood sugar quickly. Find them on Amazon and TikTok Shop, and at retailers including Fresh Thyme.
GloGlo AI, available for iPhone and Android, helps you track food, estimate carbs from a photo, and get personalized AI coaching to support more time in your target glucose range.
Careers
Passionate about using AI to advance biology? We’re bringing together researchers and engineers in machine learning, computational biology, immunology, and stem cell therapies to work toward a cure for type 1 diabetes. We’d love to hear from you.
